While traveling through North Carolina last week while on vacation, I came across some graffiti in gas station bathroom in Rocky Mount. Usually, bathroom graffiti is some combination of obscenity, stupidity, and useless information, but in this instance it was theological. The etched-in inscription reads, “Rom. 9 T.U.L.I.P. ‘Salvation is of the Lord.'” Salvation is of the Lord, but is defacing another’s property the way to express it? Anyway, it was strangely repulsive and interesting that someone took the time to spread Calvinist thinking in this way. I suppose it is better than what is usually written on the walls of gas station bathrooms.
